To maintain food hygienic standards, all restaurants and eating houses are required to supply food samples to Colombo Municipal Council Food Inspectors who arrange for them to be tested and analyzed at the laboratory.

The City Analyst assists the CMC Legal Department in taking legal action against violations of the Food Act.
